My personal story & mission

When I was seven years old, I began my career in educational media by interviewing individuals with a handheld gadget (beginning with my brother). I was obsessed with National Geographic magazine, Jacques Cousteau’s underwater films, and the power of recorded media to open up amazing worlds beyond what I saw every day. Since then, I’ve been enthralled by video, sound, and images to transport, educate, and inspire me.

As an adult, during a devastating drought in southern Ethiopia, I had the opportunity of meeting a mother, Liya, in a small village in the Oromo tribal zone near the Kenyan border. I was curious as to what she valued and why she worked so hard. Liya shared, “I want to educate my children so that they can live better lives and make a difference.”

Today, passive video dominates our internet attention on both large and small screens, but I argue that interactive multimedia is the way forward for Liya’s children and anyone seeking information and a better life.

I believe everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic situation, deserves an education.

With this in mind, my personal mission is to “empower learners to make a positive difference in the world by leveraging my
people networks, life experiences, and media expertise.”

How can we come up with innovative approaches to influence people to improve company cultures and, in turn, tell great stories on the screen?
